A bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate that will prevent you from purchasing the cigarette brand of your choice over the Internet. If you live in the states of Arizona, Utah, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Alabama, South Carolina, Idaho, Georgia, Texas, Vermont, Massachusetts, Delaware, Wisconsin, California, New York, Illinois or North Carolina, it is vitally important that you write, call, e-mail or fax your Senator or Senators, urging them to vote against S. 1177.

Tell these Senators you are an adult consumer, and should be able to purchase the brand of your choice, the same way you can purchase other legal products over the Internet.

A suggested letter would read:

Dear Senator:

I am writing you to urge you to vote against a bill currently pending in the Senate, S.1177. This bill, once again, singles out smokers like me and imposes what are clearly unconstitutional restrictions on my freedom as a consumer to purchase legal products in the same way I can purchase any other legal product.

For too long we smokers have allowed the government to impose clearly unfair legal burdens on us. I, for one, am tired of it, and intend to watch how you vote, so I can vote accordingly.

Sincerely,

This just out from the media division of the Oklahoma House of Representatives praising two of their religious kook smoke-a-nazi Reps.

Rep. Ray Vaughn of Edmond, Oklahoma has long been a fanatical Smoke-A-Nazi and has been reprimanded several times by his colleagues for introducing anti-smoking legislation.

Rep. Bill Graves is another kook who is also well known for introducing looney tunes legislation.

Now that we got a Smoke-A-Nazi governor on top of it all, the Oklahoma religious kooks are in a great position to homp and stomp on our rights and freedoms.

And as usual, there is little we can do about it. Let us hope that the Restauranter's Association will step up to the plate and start doing some law suits against the new law.

That seems unlikely however.at this point in time.

What ever happened to the concept of equal protection under the law?

Just depends on whose chicken is getting gored I guess.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Rep. Raymond L. Vaughn, jr., was recognized
recently as a "Public Health Hero" by the Oklahoma State Board of Health
for his efforts to reduce tobacco use in this state.
Vaughn, an Edmond Republican and member of the House Committee on
Public Health, was recognized June 19 during a board meeting at the
State Health Department.
"Our Board unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing you for
your continuing leadership and dedicated work to reduce and prevent
tobacco use in Oklahoma and to protect the public and workers from
secondhand smoke," President Ron Graves said.
He was referring to passage of Senate Joint Resolution 21, of which
Vaughn was a House co-sponsor with Speaker Larry E. Adair, D-Stilwell.
The measure amended the Smoking in Public Places Act. Provisions include
actions which must be taken to prevent smoking in public places;
authorizing a phase-in period for Oklahoma restaurants to become smoke
free; and exemptions for certain circumstances.
"We commend you for your ongoing efforts in this regard," Graves
said. "It is a well-deserved public recognition."
